Location: Prague, Czech Republic
Event Information
This event took place on the 14th to 16th of October 1988 at the CSV Sports Hall in the Czech Republic. The event had a budget of two million Czech crowns and the potential to seat up to 14,000 spectators. There was a lot of controversy surrounding the judging of this event, as scores were widely considered to be inconsistent. British freestyler Shane Rouse also clashed with Martin Kopecky, the event organiser, over the rules for the freestyle contest, which had been changed to suit the TV broadcast.
Freestylers from 12 countries attended, with Hans Lindgren being the highest placing freestyler in the qualifiers stage. Stefan “Lillis” Akesson put together an almost perfect run, however did not qualify for the finals, much to the surprise of the riders and attending journalists. Freestyler Frank Messman also took 21st place in the ramp contest.
